Opacum Land Trust, Inc. is a 13-town regional land conservation organization formed in 2000 to protect natural and cultural resources in South Central Massachusetts. These non-renewable resources include fertile farmland, lush green forests, river corridors, wetlands and watersheds, vernal pools, habitat for endangered animals and plants, scenic vistas, and historic and prehistoric sites.
We work in the towns of Brimfield, Brookfield, Charlton, East Brookfield, Holland, Monson, North Brookfield, Palmer, Sturbridge, Southbridge, Wales, Warren & West Brookfield.
The mission of Opacum Land Trust is to engage communities in protecting the land, water, and wildlife in south-central Massachusetts for the benefit of current and future generations.
Opacum Land Trust is a member of the Mass Land Trust Coalition, The Land Trust Alliance, MassConn Sustainable Forest Partnership, and Central Mass South Chamber of Commerce.
Opacum Land Trust envisions a future where everyone in our community enjoys access to and benefits from protected land, water, and wildlife. We see a future where we all benefit from clean lakes and streams, access to the land that sustains us, fertile farmlands, healthy forests, and habitat that protects biodiversity and supports abundant wildlife. We acknowledge that climate change presents unique challenges and we will work to build resilient landscapes that are ready to face the uncertainties of the future so that this special place will be protected for future generations.
To accomplish these tasks, your membership and donations are necessary. Please help us reach our conservation goals by donating today.

A land trust is a nonprofit, voluntary organization that works hand-in-hand with landowners who want to protect their property. Land trusts use a variety of tools, such as conservation easements that permanently restrict the uses of the land, land donations, purchases and strategic estate planning, to protect America’s open spaces and green places which are increasingly threatened by sprawl and development. Local, regional and national land trusts, often staffed by volunteers, are helping communities save America’s land heritage.
